OUR SECRET PROCESS JOURNAL

F E B R U A R Y

'“We are setting out to explore how people at different walks of life undergo similar themes of breaking, growing, and spreading. We recognize how each have varying capacities for love and hurt and sadness, and to belittle others heartbreak because it isn’t as “bad” as it could be, as others’ pain may be, is something to push back against (e.g. comforting others with “just think about x, they’re going through something much worse”).”

Our ideas were (1) An illustrated storybook (2) Inspired by plants. To begin, we researched plant life cycles, and compiled illustration inspirations.

Each one of us started to feel more comfortable contributing in areas of our individual strengths. Bekah focused on creative content, Sukanya on outreach and April on the holistic ecosystem. We began this month by drafting on the storyline, researching self-publishing and toying around ideas to make our campaign and product “stand out”.

This month was creatively challenging as we pivoted a lot. As we developed our storyline, we kept on coming across roadblocks in our ideas. The main question we had to ask ourselves was — Why would people buy our product? What was the unique, refreshing value we were offering?

We then took a detour, and decided to change our product from an illustrated storybook to a journal that accompanied the process of growing a a plant, as a tangible/physical experience to teach/remind/help the receiver to recognize that all growth processes takes time + patience, requires intentional daily nurture and has different needs at different stages. With that, we began to take steps towards this new idea.
